Hello from the creators of The Balanced Startup and welcome to our website!
This is our home for The Balanced Startup a framework that captures thinking on how to structure conversations and help entrepreneurs, their investors and their advisers “get on the same page” when it comes to understanding what stage a startup is at, where it is going and how it plans to get there. Why is it useful? Well hopefully we can start to show this here (web link) but the truth is this is a startup too, and the real evidence will only develop over time as we (and hopefully you) use and refine it.
So with the introductions over… a little personal note on the inspiration for The Balanced Startup… my own favourite startup. It began approximately 20 years ago when my daughter was born – in fact it was my daughter! Of course there are many similarities between a startup company and a newborn. Both are riddled with uncertainty, involve sleepless nights and taking baby steps. Occasionally – maybe too often – they puke on you unexpectedly but you remain devoted, putting your heart, soul and good chunk of cash into their development!
Thankfully, although still consuming some cash, my favourite startup is now a little more stable and developed a life of its own… so much so that it was she that convinced me to finally put together this website collating many idea’s I’d been using to help startups. A little bit of coaching, some free software and a few YouTube tutorials later we managed the this – The Balanced Startup.
As well as aiming to develop and use The Balanced Startup framework ourselves, we’re keen for others to use and develop it too. There are many tools that can be linked to and integrated into such a simple structure. We’ve captured some initial ones here on the website, and referenced them in the Resources and Links section, but will explore others through this blog as we use The Balanced Startup as our lens for viewing the startup ecosystem.
Feel free to navigate around the site and use the free resources and links!
